Translational Cancer Research for Basic Scientists Workshop 2026

The workshop took place at Le Meridien Boston Cambridge in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The workshop was aimed at predoctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, early-career scientists, and senior scientists transitioning to translational cancer research.

The workshop was billed as an intensive immersion in the latest methodologies and approaches of cutting-edge translational cancer research, led by prominent scientists from academia, government, and industry with emphasis on patient and clinician perspectives.

It was most worthwhile for predoctoral students, postdocs and early-career basic scientists moving toward translational cancer research, since the week-long format was led by course directors from Massachusetts General Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Nationwide Children's Hospital and stressed patient and clinician perspectives. Established clinical investigators or scientists already deep in translational work would have gotten less from a course pitched at basic scientists entering the field.

Participants at academic medical and research workshops usually wear business casual or smart casual, with comfortable layers for long classroom days. Early October in Cambridge, Massachusetts is crisp, so a light jacket or sweater was useful.
