About
The Michigan Council of Teachers of English organized this single-day conference around writing, a sense of place, and Indigenous approaches to teaching. It was written for English teachers and teacher educators working anywhere from kindergarten through college, and it was billed as offering fresh approaches to bringing place into English language arts classrooms. The keynotes were scheduled to come from Rob and Amanda Montgomery, who co-wrote A Place to Write, while Kristin Arola of Michigan State University was scheduled to address attendees at the luncheon. An optional Thursday evening workshop and social before the main day was scheduled to feature roundtables led by National Writing Project leaders.

It was held at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing, Michigan.
MCTE Fall Conference is for K-16 English teachers and teacher educators.
Teachers of other subjects or those outside Michigan would get less from it, although the one-day format, registration of $110 to $180 with breakfast, lunch and a year of MCTE membership, and scholarships made it a low-cost option.
Teachers at state English council conferences usually dress in business casual or relaxed professional clothes, such as slacks or skirts with sweaters or collared shirts. Mid-October in East Lansing is cool, so a light jacket or layers suited a day that ran from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
